2001 / This is me in the first wig I bought. I felt OK in it. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but I could deal with it. On one break in between chemo and surgery I went to Italy for a few days to LIVE and forget about being a cancer patient. I was afraid that everyone would be able to tell I was wearing a wig - -but now that I see it with survivor's eyes I only see a woman with hair smiling on vacation in Venice
The other photo was taken at a vineyard outside of Rochester, NY. I was getting ready to start my 12-week course of daily radiation. I had just "summered" at Columbia Presbyterian and - this was the first time I was out in public. I was so worried people would know I was wearing a wig.
